Rain on your wedding day // Meadowlark Gardens Wedding
That Alanis song is totally stuck in my head right now.
It’s been snowy and grey here most of the week, so today seemed like the right time to chat about dealing with less-than-ideal situations like rain on your wedding day.
Behind the scenes, Ben and I have been trying to sell our home. I know this has nothing to do with weddings (bear with me), but it’s been an ongoing thing for about six months…and it’s just. not. working. Lots of reasons why, but every time we think it might be the time, the universe says no.
One of the reasons we want to move is because we feel limited by our small living space now – both working from home, it would be so lovely to have a way to really remove ourselves from all reminders of work when the day is done, and not be all up in each other’s (okay, my) projects that take over the entire house for several days.
But after this last time of thinking it could be the right time and finding out that it’s not, I’m learning that maybe limitations are the start of innovation.
Like rain on your wedding day.
Rain can seem like such a damper on a wedding day…it’s hard to want to go outside for photos and risk ruining the look you spent hours perfecting or getting wet and soggy on a day where you want to just be warm in the glow of love.
So instead of railing against the rain, or whatever limitation it is that seems to want to chase away happiness…work with it. Lean into it. Use the limitation to create or find a thing of beauty.
I love this wedding that Dani and I did together at Meadowlark Gardens for that exact reason. The rain did not at all dampen the joy of the day, and instead we used umbrellas (I always bring along a fun, pretty umbrella just in case!) and windows covered in string lights to make photos that are lovely and unique and magical because they captured the day exactly as it was in all of its misty grey beauty.
Oh, and you know these two did not let the rain stop the party. Check out the slideshow for all of the awesome details and dancing pics…there are some good ones in here!
