Wedding Photography Guide
I have a well-documented love of magazines.
And while one of my audacious kind of goals is to someday be published in one, I also wanted to make one. So this past summer, I decided to go for it, using my own experiences, from planning and photographing over 100 weddings and from my own experience as a bride, to write a guide that shares the secrets of making amazing wedding day photos.
I wanted to make a resource for brides and grooms, a way to walk through the wedding day and all of the pieces of the experience of being photographed. Because, although you might not know it yet, there are a lot of things that happen before, during, and after a wedding – photographing the day isn’t just an eight hour affair. There’s love to document before, details to consider on the day of, and an heirloom to create after. Knowing some of these things from the beginning of your planning will help you make decisions that feel the best for you, and help you get photos and create a story book that perfectly capture the way you felt on your wedding day.
Inside this wedding photography guide, there are tips for getting the most out of your wedding photography, important things to remember as the big day approaches, and an explanation of some of the things you’ll want to include in your wedding photography coverage and why they matter. It will help you think outside the box to plan a wedding that feels like you and have a better sense of what to expect on your wedding day.
One of my favorite pages in this guide is the timeline worksheet. It breaks down all of the pieces of your day and how much time to consider giving each of them, so that you can know early on how much time you’ll need to plan for photos throughout the day.
I can’t wait to share these with all of the couples I meet in 2015!
A note of thanks: My amazing friend and graphic designer, Kelly Nealon, did a beautiful job of making this wedding photography guide look fabulous! Her design truly enhanced the cheerfulness of the mag. When she’s not designing for the web or spending her free time making magazines for crazy photographers, she also does custom wedding invitations and plays with her sweet puppy Chloe!
