Resolutions // 2014
I have big dreams for 2014.
But first, a quick look back.
It felt like I spent a lot of 2013 trying to find my purpose. Figuring out why I’m on this journey, and what I want it to look like. I didn’t know that would be the theme going into the beginning of last year, and along the way, there were some other incredible things that happened.
Like…
- Being a part of the team that photographed Torrey Smith’s wedding (and along with that, having a few of my photos published in Baltimore Bride!)
- Photographing over 40 weddings in the span of seven months, many alongside Dani, who turned out to be the best friend I could have asked for when I made the resolution to make new friends
- Working with Jess Lively to find my purpose – to create cheerfulness in the lives of others so that they can be inspired to enjoy their happy moments – and set a direction for my business
- Redesigning my website to reflect my brand and my purpose, with the help of two stylish ladies, Breanna and Blair
- Feeling creative burn out, and figuring out how to move past it
- Making a – short, but sweet – video
- Mastering off-camera lighting
- Creating a fun croquet-inspired photo shoot that was published in Emma magazine
As I look forward to a new year, I feel excited about the things it could hold. And not knowing where it might end. I’ve spent much of my past trying to figure out where the end of the road lies, and for once, I can honestly say I’m glad that I have no idea. I feel like 2013 made me more comfortable living in the moment and leaving room for magic to happen.
My resolution for 2014 is simple: to fulfill my purpose by creating cheerfulness in my own life and inspiring others to make their lives more cheerful.
With that in mind, I’m planning to make this blog a “happy place,” with photos that illustrate how to incorporate cheerfulness into various aspects of real life. And to grow as a photographer, I’m going to focus on creating photos that are cheerful by being more intentional about lens choice, composition, mood, and design, and find brides and grooms that are excited about celebrating the joyful moments of their day.
And if we’re going to go out on a limb to include big dreams that might not happen, but maybe they could, I’d like to find a studio or creative co-op where I can have space to create to my heart’s content. And I’d like to work on an editorial project exclusively for publication.
So here’s to the new year, to making plans and going after dreams…with a few good surprises along the way!
Now tell me…what are your big dreams for 2014?
