A Cheerful Home Office

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Just before we move to Austin, I thought it might be time to share my most favorite room in our Annapolis house – my cheerful home office.

Somehow, when we moved here, I swindled Ben into giving me this entire back room of our house to use as my office, and then also managed to convince him that we needed to add a window to the room so that I could have enough natural light for happiness/photo activities. Here’s what it looked like before (along with mock-ups of the design plan).

There were a lot of things that I used directly from the design plan, and having a plan made making decisions for this room so. much. easier. (Caitlin Brown, you are my hero for making this dream come to life.) But furniture takes time to order, and in the time it took to get all the things, I found some DIY projects to get into that make this space feel a bit more custom and personal – like the white brick fireplace + pink mantle, lucite curtain rods and the pink sliding door. And while I loved the suggested wall mural, everything that I pulled as inspiration for this room had a color-blocked wall. It felt like that was the direction my heart wanted to go.

But even having a plan didn’t keep me from making a mistake or two; the one that cost the most time and money was the coffee table. Finding something small that was also a good height felt nearly impossible, and the original table I ordered took 1o weeks to arrive, only to do so in the wrong color. Another 10 week wait for the right one (and an accidental spare), and then of course the most perfect table appeared in an email from CB2, after going through all of that…and it was also backordered. It felt like it took a year to get all of that straightened out, but was so worth it for finding the most perfect one in the end because that table is everything I’ve ever wanted.

There’s so much to love about being in this space; it really does feel like my happy place. Getting to work in this little slice of Scandinavian Palm Springs has been a dream, and I’m sad to leave it but also excited for the new things we have in store.I feel like I learn a TON every time I decorate a space…and hopefully our new space will come together even better than this one. While I didn’t get to do as many shoots or meetings or hangouts here as I would have liked, there are so many fun times that were had here and I love that it ended up feeling like I brought some of my favorite places to visit into my home.
