Towson weddings // Caitlin + Josh’s Best Day Ever
In storytelling, beginnings are just as important as endings.
There’s no right or wrong way to start a relationship, and although I love the beginning to every love story, I will always have a special place in my heart for the couples who started their relationship as teenagers, for the sole reason that it is my beginning too. The long phone conversations, tearful goodbyes, and weekend road trips planned months in advance following high school graduation; the joy of college breaks that promised more than three days in the same place and hours of face to face conversations…and other wonderful face to face activities (pretend you didn’t read that, Mom). And while maintaining romance is hard in any relationship, time and distance are huge hurdles to overcome in keeping the spark alive, especially when you’re young and figuring out who you are and coming into your own.
It’s easy as you grow up to grow into different people or grow apart. Although in this moment we think that in ten years we’ll still be the same – like the things we like now, hold onto the same values as time marches on – if we look back to who we were ten years ago, we see that maybe we do change, in small ways and over long periods of time and that those small changes can lead to big changes where we don’t recognize who we’ve become or who we used to be. Finding someone who grows with you, gives you the space to find yourself and still loves you and puts in the effort to know what makes you happy – that is a treasure worth holding on to and a love worth celebrating.
To Caitlin and Josh – there are two things I know with my whole heart and hope that they are also true for you. The first is that you’ve already come through the hard part. You’ve made it through the biggest times of change and weathered the strains of long distance. When challenges come your way in the future, you know how to lean on each other and how to keep the romance alive and how to make each other happy. The second is that you can love your person more than you do right now. And although marriage is maybe not much of a change, it is a bigger one than you may realize and in the best way possible. I hope that you find it to be an even better adventure than any you’ve had before, and as you begin this next part of your journey together, it continues to bring you joy, comfort, romance and so much beautiful laughter.
