Want to know how this all started? Read part 1 here.
When I wrote about the backyard last, we had just finalized the 2D, birds-eye view version of the design. Just that part had me so excited – it finally felt right, even at the stage where there was still imagination required to envision what it would look like in real life.
And then we got the 3D renderings. They look better than I even imagined.
Giving up some control made me a little bit nervous to invest in someone else creating this design. DIY has been my way of getting what I want at a price I could afford for so long (see this bathroom and this kitchen) that I felt a little bit sad giving this project to someone else. But the best part about having someone else do the design was that it was truly a collaboration.
The designers, Pete and Kristen of Bioscapes, made this feel collaborative. They gave us a great starting point, and also really took the time to listen to the feedback we gave them – and I had a lot of specific feedback. The best part of the whole process, though, was being able to visualize what this will look like in 3D without having to stare at a screen for days on end because they did that work for us (and killed it).
As for the actual build and making this a reality, we’re opting to move in phases. The first phase will start at the end of June, and we’ll get all of the hardscaping in place – the deck, the planters, and the concrete patio/pavers. Then we’ll wait to save up more money before doing the rest – the pergola, breeze block wall, outdoor shower, most of the plants (fully grown trees are an investment; unclear if I can wait to save up for them or if I just buy babies and nurture them myself).
So here’s what we came up with:
You know when it’s done there will be more photos to come. I can’t wait to get plants and bring so much color and life into this yard.
