Deep not wide has always been my refrain, and I’ve used it as a guide to describe pretty much everything in my life – relationships, work, putting down roots, self-discovery.
But what happens when you jump into a pool or a lake and you swim down to the bottom? In the deep end, the pressure in your head, around your ears, intensifies the further down you go.
I’ve always wanted to learn to free dive. It just feels like I tried the metaphorical kind first.
In the pursuit of depth, of sharing the vulnerable places, I’ve steadily increased the pressure on myself to keep exploring and sharing deeper parts of my being. Sharing has been healing, even on the days when it feels like skinny dipping (which is also surprisingly healing).
The goal for the creative compost started out as simply a container for sharing. I needed a place that felt safe to share honestly and with integrity and without so many other voices talking over one another. I love this space for being exactly that.
And this container needs to be able to ebb and flow, just like water. For it to be sustainable, I need to give myself the space to dive deep and share the depth, but I also need to be able to come back up for air, float on the surface, or splash in the shallows.
For anyone who comes here for depth, there will still be deep, vulnerable pieces. But they’ll likely be mixed with less heavy things, lighter words, and sometimes lean heavier on the photos.
I want to be able to share the big things and the small things, the tiny moments that feel joyful as well as the big life questions I’m trying to answer. Thanks for coming along for the ride.
May you always have spaces that allow you to change your mind, to let your work shape shift, to find the spaces where you feel free to show up exactly as you are – and create more of them.
