I missed posting on Monday. May we all be allowed to take time when the words aren’t coming and life gets crazy.
Truthfully, it’s been a little bit chaotic. Selling things – trying to connect to as many people as possible, via emails, social media posts, and text messages – over the holiday weekend takes time and effort and I should have planned better in advance. At least, if I want to have the un-complicated, relaxing holiday I requested, I should plan this out at the beginning of November and/or plan days off for the week after the holiday.
This happens every year, and I’m done pretending I have it all together or that it’s easy. Selling makes me confront my own limits, my desires, my inner asshole, my need to make everything more complicated than it maybe needs to be. Maybe next year I will remember.
Even so, what you read in the memes on the internet is true: if you’re buying from a small business during the holiday season, there really is a person doing a happy dance behind the scenes when you place your order, because it feels GOOD when you notice us and help us meet our business goals. So thank you for that and for supporting the artists, makers, and local business owners in your life.
And then, throw a migraine, a cold, and a police chase that ended with four men jumping over our fence and an arrest in our backyard into that mix, and my body demands time to recover from life. It needs a minute to catch up.
So this is today’s post. Some days it is actual compost, where you have to pick up the pieces, the balls that are falling, and regroup. Today is the day that I need to live the lessons and take the pause that I want to be available to all of us.
I’ll hopefully be back on Friday with something more insightful. In the meantime, may you also take the space you need, whether it is offered with permission or not. You are a human being, and your body requires rest…may we all listen to our bodies rather than the voices of urgency and productivity. And, shameless plug, if you need help making space for yourself, come meet me on the mat on Monday.
